Survey of Social Media Habits in Southeast Wisconsin
In June 2011, Clear Verve Marketing and McGrath Marketing Associates launched a study on the social media habits of nonprofit organizations in Southeast Wisconsin. The goal of the study was to determine how these organizations were using this relatively new form of communication to promote their causes and share the findings so participants could learn from each other’s best practices.
The study was conducted online between June 10, 2011 and June 30, 2011. The survey was promoted through nonprofit federations including Community Health Charites of Wisconsin and United Way, as well as through traditional public relations activities, such as news releases.
Representatives of 135 not-for-profit organizations participated in the survey. The nonprofits represented a variety of causes including education services, health care, social services, the arts, and workforce development.
Participants were asked demographic questions to qualify them by age and mission. The survey was structured to provide different questions to those currently participating in social media and those that were not.
